In the efforts to have students practice the oral used of introductory phrases with a comma, I have them share one positive thing they did over the weekend, or just about anything in the past. They could only share in one sentences, and focus on one thing. It could go from "Last Saturday, I had a sleepover," to "This past week, my grandma died," or as simple as "Yesterday, I ate a burger." Set up clear expectations about being respectful, but your sttudents will love starting their week doing this. There are so many benefits, besides grammar practice. You are building relationships.
